Hey Oppo, so my car was rear-ended last week and more than likely it’s going to get totaled. I work at a Honda dealership and I have 2 cars that I have my eye set on. Both are 6-speed hatchbacks that are pretty fun. I’ve driven both. Due to the lower monthly payment and Apple Carplay I’m leaning towards the Fit Sport but I’m worried about some of the ergonomics as well as highway driving. I like the Civic Hatch but it has no Carplay and it isn’t as practical and airy like the Fit Sport. It does have a much better ride and engine on the other hand...
For reference I do about 12k a year, bike a lot and want something fuel-efficient and fun to drive. I’m not sure when I’ll get the car but I’m waiting for insurance to give me a check for my car. I’m not on here often but I’ll try to respond as quickly as I can.

The Honda Fit is the way to go in my opinion. It’s smaller and very handy little car. My gut tells me that you should be able to get consistently higher mileage also.

Personally I’d go for the civic, it’s bigger and more comfortable. It’s also got the better powertrain and ride handling. It doesn’t have CarPlay but it does still have Bluetooth.

If it’s down to finances and out goings then the Fit/Jazz is the one, but then as you say the Civic has much better ride and engine.
The Fit/Jazz has the benefit of the ‘magic seats’, but the Civic surely has the larger interior space overall.
I think the Civic has it, it also may depreciate less.

I have an earlier Fit but also drove to Vermont in a friend’s GK. The newest Fit is a bit better on the highway than my GE, but neither of them are great. That said, I drive from Boston to PA and NJ about five times a year, and I’m surprised at how overall tolerable the highway driving is. There’s noise, and you’re spinning at 3500rpm (even the newer one, the final gear ratio is not much taller at all), but it’s comfortable and doesn’t wear you out that badly. The visibility is wonderful, which is nice.
Honestly, if you’ve driven both and are still thinking the Fit, get the Fit. I’m continually annoyed they took the rear sway bar out of the newest Fit Sport, but the aftermarket can solve that. I personally am contemplating upping to a Civic hatch or Corolla hatch because I do way more highway driving than I thought I would, but it’s not such an urgent need that I’m planning on trading in my car early for it.

The magic seats are amazing. My car is as if not more practical than my WRX wagon was, despite being significantly smaller.

Imagine if you could put all those things together.
Civic+magic seats+wagon/estate.

Put a 1.5T in it with stick, make it available in the US, and I would have already bought one.

They came in a 1.6 i-DTEC 118bhp diesel and a 1.8 i-VTEC 140bhp petrol.

Cars like this make me hate American car buyers. Why would you buy an CR-V when that is an option?

We tend to buy cars for it’s price and purpose.
Like why buy a CR-V unless that’s what you need, of the price is that good and the road tax and insurance isn’t going to be a penalty for doing so.
The CR-V has it’s place in rural communities for for someone needing something to go a little off road. Where I am we used them as out of hour doctor cars.

I just shed a single tear. Why must I be denied wagon joy because I live in the land of freedom? I would gladly accept a small level of tyranny in exchange for plentiful wagons.

Lol.
I can’t help with that one but I think the translation for freedom and tyranny is being lost between U.S. and U.K. English. Only messing with you mate.
Have a Honda Type R estate someone made.
